This task includes: policy assessment and analysis; formulation of policy options for improving the competitiveness of the Mongolian economy; assistance in consensus building; and technical and managerial implementation support.
Recent Activities
Zamyn Uud Gateway Logistics Park: Following up a resolution of the Prime Minister’s Consultative Council on Private Sector Development and Investment to establish a Public Private Partnership that will build and operate a logistics facility in Zamiin Uud, the project worked with the freight forwarders and the GoM to develop Memorandum of Understanding on the formation of the PPP. The project held meetings with freight forwarders, the State Property Committee, the Prime Minister Advisor on Investments, and Customs to develop a working consensus on the way forward.
Market analysis of cement, glass-making, and iron bar manufacturing: The project completed and delivered a preliminary market analysis of these products for the implementation of the “Master Plan on Construction Material Production Development 2007-2015” to leaders of the Government working group on “Industrialization Policy and Coordination.” Current schedule is for the project to make the presentation of initial findings to an extended working group meeting in April.
Legal and regulatory framework for Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Concessions: During 9-21 March, with project assistance, five GoM and parliamentary committee officials accompanied by 2 EPRC long term local advisors attended the IP3 workshop “Designing Legislative, Institutional and Regulatory Frameworks for Successful PPP's” in Washington DC, USA. During the training the team identified specific problems being faced by the attendees and developed an action plan resolve these issues.
