EPRC supports an improved environment for government transparency and corporate governance that builds consensus among national decision-makers, businesses, local government and community leaders, academic institutions, and civil society representatives by linking policy reform and private sector-led economic growth. A major current emphasis is on developing a national consensus on the mining sector.
Recent Activities
Public dialogue on mining policy issues: With assistance from Rena Guenduez, an international mining expert, the project continued to work with civil society organizations to develop them as efficient interlocutors for a productive dialogue on mining policy issues. Assistance focused on developing proper internal and public communications strategy and procedures of stakeholder organizations, internal logistics, fundamentals of the mining life cycle, and international case studies of agreements among civil society, government, and companies on mining issues. The project developed and delivered four modules of training to civil society groups. Based on these workshops, project began intensive development of a modular series of pedagogical and informational materials on mining issues for the general public. Delivery and testing of the new modules will begin in summer 2009.
Public communications strategy for MMRE on mining issues: With assistance from William Cleary, an international communications strategy expert, the project worked intensively with the Ministry on the development of a public communications strategy.
Production of second TV program on Ulaanbaatar heating: Project worked actively on developing selected program topics and scheduling plans for the “Hot Topix” TV series. Production of the second program of the series, focused on household energy conservation, proceeded intensively in collaboration with the UB Heating Network to complete for broadcasting in May before the end of the heating
